DoorDash has announced a new text-to-order AI agent integrated with Apple Messages, allowing customers to place food orders directly through text conversations rather than navigating its mobile application.
Text-Based Ordering and Local Recommendations
The conversational tool processes natural language prompts to assemble orders, such as recalling recurring purchases based on simple requests like asking for a usual order. Users can also request specific dishes or ask the system for local restaurant recommendations. In response, the agent searches nearby establishments, suggests a prepared digital cart, and sends food photographs to confirm choices.
For group orders, DoorDash states the agent is equipped to accommodate multiple dietary preferences and varying item quantities within a single text exchange.
Market Strategy and Availability
The deployment targets consumer adoption of personal AI assistants capable of completing practical tasks without opening traditional software interfaces. By introducing conversational ordering, DoorDash aims to differentiate its platform from food delivery competitors like Uber Eats and Grubhub.
Access to the text-to-order feature is currently limited, with DoorDash opening a waitlist for users based in the United States.
California Drone Delivery Trials
Alongside the AI agent rollout, DoorDash announced plans to begin testing delivery drones in partnership with select restaurants located in Northern California.
