Valve has released SteamVR Beta version 2.18.2, introducing targeted fixes to improve virtual reality streaming stability and resolve persistent software bugs across platforms. The update builds on recent beta releases across Valve's software ecosystem, focusing heavily on streaming reliability and hardware integration.

VR Streaming and Linux Display Fixes

A central focus of the 2.18.2 beta update is resolving streaming instability, including mitigations for "Error 17" connection issues during wireless VR sessions. According to Valve, Steam Frame users should update to SteamOS 0.4.3 or higher on the OS Beta branch alongside this SteamVR release to maximize streaming reliability.

Additionally, Valve deployed a hotfix within the release to address a specific issue on Linux systems where SteamLink experienced green or black screen display errors during streaming.

Eye Tracking Exposure and OpenVR Integration

For users on the Steam Frame head-mounted display, the beta update begins exposing eye openness data over OSC. Utilizing this feature requires SteamOS 0.4.3 or newer. Valve plans to expand access to eye openness metrics through the OpenVR SDK in a future software update.

Dashboard and Controller Binding Corrections

SteamVR Beta 2.18.2 also corrects several interface and input issues. It fixes a bug that caused the SteamVR dashboard to recenter unexpectedly for some users and resolves broken selection controls for the Throttling Behavior setting in per-application Video Settings.

Input functionality has been restored for titles where controller bindings previously failed to load, including Google Earth VR and Thumper. The update also improves window focus behavior when users interact with visual grab and resize handles within the VR interface.
