Progress Software announced new capabilities for its Progress Agentic RAG platform, aimed at connecting enterprise knowledge sources to artificial intelligence applications through an Agentic Knowledge Layer. The update introduces autonomous query processing capabilities alongside integrations for everyday enterprise tools to reduce custom orchestration engineering.
Autonomous Query Processing with Smart Agent
A central component of the update is the new Smart Agent, which handles complex cross-system queries autonomously. The agent breaks down multi-step questions into sub-queries, executes retrieval requests across connected applications via Model Context Protocol (MCP), indexed Knowledge Boxes, and web sources, and continuously evaluates results until it gathers complete information. This multi-step process minimizes the need for developers to write custom routing logic for different enterprise data sources.
Workflow Integration and Content Ingestion
To streamline daily operations, Progress introduced a native Microsoft Teams application available in the Microsoft Store. The app brings source-cited AI search directly into existing Teams channels and chats while maintaining defined enterprise access permissions. Additionally, a new native WordPress plugin enhances content indexing by preserving content metadata, structure, and taxonomy, helping maintain retrieval accuracy without requiring manual pipeline reconfigurations.
Enterprise Deployment Details
Progress confirmed that existing platform customers automatically gain access to all three features. The update operates using existing indexed content, governance controls, and pipeline structures without requiring data reindexing or architectural changes. The platform updates are available immediately.
