Mouse Computer has introduced the X2, a 981g laptop with a 12.2-inch display and an empty memory slot for upgrades. TechRadar reports that sales will begin sequentially from October through the company's online store in Japan, with no plans stated for sales outside the country.
A small chassis with room for more memory
The X2 measures 277.1 mm wide, 210.2 mm deep and 19 mm tall. Its display has a 1920 by 1200 resolution, while an unoccupied SODIMM slot lets buyers expand the supplied 16 GB of RAM to 32 GB. That upgrade path is unusual enough to matter in a laptop this small: buyers can add memory later without replacing the initial configuration.
Three processor choices
Mouse Computer lists three AMD processor options: the Ryzen 5 216, Ryzen AI 5 340 and Ryzen AI 7 350. TechRadar cites early benchmark comparisons for the chips, but those comparisons should not be read as measured performance of a finished X2. The reported hardware also includes a 500 GB NVMe SSD, a 60 Wh battery, Wi-Fi 7, gigabit LAN, HDMI output and a microSD slot.
The reported battery figures are roughly 12.5 hours of video playback and 25 hours at idle under JEITA 3.0 measurement standards. Those are different usage conditions, so the idle figure is not a claim of 25 hours of active work.
Japan-only sales for now
The Ryzen AI 5 configuration with 16 GB of RAM and 500 GB of storage is priced at ¥239,800; the Ryzen AI 7 version with the same memory and storage is ¥259,000. The report does not give a price for the Ryzen 5 216 model. Buyers outside Japan would have to consider importing the X2 rather than purchasing it through an announced local sales channel.
