Meta launched Meta One during the week of September 17, 2026, offering paid subscriptions that raise access limits for its more computationally intensive AI tools across services including Instagram. The existing Meta experience remains free, while the new plans target people who want to generate and edit more content with AI.
Two Paid Tiers
The Core tier costs $7.99 per month and includes higher allowances for image and video generation, along with more frequent use of Instagram's AI Restyle tools. Premium costs $19.99 per month and provides additional tokens. The bundles also contain non-AI benefits, although the source does not detail them.
Meta says early testing indicated demand for the subscription model. The source does not provide subscriber figures, geographic availability or a complete comparison of the two tiers, limiting any assessment of how widely the plans may appeal.
Demand for More Control
The launch has also renewed discussion about users who want less AI embedded in existing products. A 2025 Pew Research Center study cited by TechRadar found that 59% of American adults felt they had little or no control over AI's role in their lives, while 55% wanted more control.
A Gartner survey cited in the report found that 50% of US consumers would prefer businesses that avoid generative AI in customer-facing content. Separate Gartner findings said half of customers believed generative AI could simplify service interactions, but 87% still considered access to a human agent essential when AI was used.
An AI-Off Tier Is Only a Proposal
TechRadar suggests that companies could eventually charge for an AI-light experience that hides assistants, generated recommendations and shortcuts unless users deliberately enable them. That concept is editorial speculation, not an announced Meta product. Apple Intelligence can already be disabled systemwide, while Microsoft lets Copilot users turn off features including personalization and memory.
Meta does sell ad-free Facebook and Instagram subscriptions in the UK and Europe, partly in response to regulatory requirements. UK pricing is £2.99 per month on the web or £3.99 through iOS and Android, but the option is not offered in the US or Australia.
