JetBrains Air Teams Brings Shared Cloud Agents and Automations to Business Customers

JetBrains has introduced Air Teams, a shared workspace for engineering teams to run coding agents, reuse development environments and automate recurring work. The service is already available to JetBrains business customers, while access for individual customers is planned for later.

From personal setups to team workflows

Air Teams extends the Air app beyond an individual desktop workflow. Teams can organize shared environments, connectors, Automations and cloud tasks in projects, allowing one developer's agent workflow to be reused by colleagues rather than remaining tied to a personal laptop.

Automations are designed for recurring tasks triggered by events or schedules. Supported examples include reviewing pull requests, investigating labeled issues and checking dependency updates. A workflow combines instructions, an execution environment, available tools and a trigger, with GitHub events, Jira events, webhooks and schedules among the stated options.

Cloud environments and tasks

Each Automation or cloud task runs in a configured environment that can include a selected VM size, network access, dependencies, toolchain settings and secrets. The setup is stored in a repository at `.air/cloud/startup.sh`, allowing the team to review and version it with the code. Air can also help create an initial startup script on a separate branch for engineers to inspect.

Once prepared, an environment can be saved as a snapshot and shared without exposing credentials. Cloud tasks can be started from an IDE and later followed on the web, continuing after the original laptop is closed. The source says phone access is planned, but does not give an availability date.

Review remains with engineers

Air Teams routes code changes through pull requests, leaving an engineer to decide whether to merge an agent's work. The system retains the agent's conversation and tool calls so teams can inspect how a result was produced. JetBrains describes examples where agents update dependencies, run builds and tests, respond to review feedback or revert changes when an upgrade cannot be repaired.

Projects provide administrators with control over membership, environments, connectors and Automations. They also have service accounts and AI credits, so Automations can continue operating under the project rather than depending on the account of the developer who created them. The announcement does not provide pricing or broader customer availability.
