Volkswagen plans to include AirConsole, a dashboard gaming platform developed by N-Dream, in selected 2027 vehicles. The service will launch with 20 games, including Tetris, Pac-Man Championship Edition and Uno Car Party.

Where it will appear

AirConsole will be built into the infotainment systems of the 2027 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Tiguan, Golf GTI, Golf R and ID vehicles. The games are intended for use while the vehicle is parked, rather than during a journey.

Phones become controllers

Players will start a game on the vehicle display and use a smartphone as a wireless controller. Multiple phones can support multiplayer, although Volkswagen has not said how many devices will work at launch. The source does not indicate that other compatible peripherals will be supported.

A connected-service requirement

Access requires Volkswagen's In-Vehicle Premium service, which also includes Wi-Fi hotspot support, exclusive navigation features and other connected functions. Most 2027 vehicles include three complimentary months, after which the service costs $149 per year.

Vehicle-specific additions

Some games will interact with ambient lighting in certain vehicles, matching lighting effects to in-game activity. Volkswagen will also offer a customized version of Pac-Man in which Volkswagen logos replace power pellets and cars replace fruit pickups.
