Mortgage origination platform Vesta has secured $30 million in a new financing round led by Conversion Capital. The company announced the funding alongside strategic investments from Citi Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, and mortgage lenders including Pennymac and New American Funding. According to Chief Executive Officer Mike Yu, who co-founded the company in 2020 with Devon Yang, Vesta's annualized revenue increased 12-fold year over year, bringing its total funding raised to date to $85 million.

Targeting Operational Costs in Loan Processing

Vesta develops software designed to replace labor-intensive manual workflows in the U.S. mortgage industry, where closing a loan currently averages 40 days and costs approximately $11,000. Most of that expenditure stems from human labor required to review loan documentation.

The platform allows financial institutions to deploy swarms of AI agents that execute specific administrative and decision-making tasks. Lenders typically introduce the automated system by requiring human approval for initial decisions before allowing agents to independently process select loan batches. Some institutions use the software to support mortgage underwriting decisions, though lenders remain legally responsible for final approvals. To meet regulatory requirements, the platform logs the underlying reasoning and actions taken by agents for auditability.

Long-Horizon Reasoning and Technical Foundation

The company previously focused on building data architecture tailored for complex financial workflows. According to Yu, earlier AI models lacked the multi-stage task adherence required for long-horizon mortgage processing. Vesta expanded its automated capabilities following recent model advances, specifically highlighting Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 4.5 for its ability to follow custom instructions over extended timelines.

Market Share Expansion and Competition

Despite its recent revenue growth, Vesta currently holds under 5% of the mortgage origination software market. The startup plans to use the new capital to scale its workforce, build out product lines—including a personal assistant for loan issuers—and expand market share.

Vesta competes directly with legacy mortgage software provider ICE Mortgage Technology as well as AI-focused competitors such as Xpanse. Yu claimed that legacy architectures face structural hurdles when attempting to integrate autonomous software agents compared to native agent frameworks.
