Sony to Skip CES 2027 Following End of Honda EV Partnership

Sony will not participate as an exhibitor at CES 2027 in Las Vegas, ending a presence at the annual tradeshow that dates back to its inauguration in 1967. A spokesperson for Sony confirmed to Bloomberg that neither the parent corporation nor any of its affiliate units intend to host a booth at the January 2027 event.

Dissolution of the EV Venture

The decision follows a scaling back of Sony's automotive ambitions. While Sony did not maintain an independent booth at CES 2026, its joint venture—Sony Honda Mobility—displayed an Afeela electric vehicle prototype at the event. However, following a reassessment of Honda's electrification strategy, Sony Honda Mobility canceled the Afeela 1 and a planned SUV model in March. Both parent companies subsequently announced plans to evaluate the long-term status of their joint enterprise.

Broader Hardware Retreat

Sony's absence from the CES floor coincides with wider strategic shifts across its consumer electronics operations. TCL has acquired a 51% stake in a joint venture that will operate Sony's home entertainment business, which includes the Bravia TV line. The company also indicated that PlayStation will not maintain a showcase at the 2027 event.

Shift Toward Content and Creator Tools

In an official statement, Sony noted that it strategically reviews its participation in industry events on an ongoing basis. The company stated that its business priorities are increasingly concentrating on entertainment, intellectual property management, and technologies designed to support content creators.
