Roblox announced a broader rollout of Build, its prompt-based game creation feature, alongside plans to let creators distribute games beyond the main Roblox experience. Unveiled at the annual Roblox Developer Conference, the changes also cover NPC tools, offline play and financial services for creators.
Build Reaches More Creators
Build allows users to create games with natural-language prompts. After an initial release in New Zealand, Roblox is expanding the feature to Serbia and Singapore. The company is also adding desktop access, an asset library and controls for iterating on generated work.
A prompt-based scene-generation capability is scheduled for later this year and will also extend to Roblox Studio. Roblox described these additions as part of a broader rollout, but did not announce availability in other countries.
Games Move Beyond Roblox
Creators will soon be able to offer games as separate apps on mobile devices, PCs and consoles while continuing to use Roblox as the underlying game engine. Roblox also plans to let players open a game through a browser link by the end of the year.
The platform is adding support for 2D development through an orthographic camera, animated image containers and direct sprite-sheet imports. These tools expand the formats creators can build without replacing the existing Roblox engine.
NPCs and Player Features
Roblox plans to introduce NPCs capable of playtesting games later this year. Creators will also be able to offer an offline mode for players with weak network connections. A persistent Friends chat tab with voice typing is coming for players, while discovery recommendations will account for user age and game length.
New Ways to Access Earnings
Roblox said game makers have earned more than $5 billion since 2013, including $1.7 billion during the latest 12-month period. Its new Roblox Wallet is intended to pay creators in real money by the end of each business day and support transfers to bank accounts.
Airwallex will provide the wallet service for U.S. users aged 18 and older, with global expansion planned later. Roblox also previewed a Roblox Card for spending creator earnings wherever the card is accepted; that product is scheduled to launch next year.
