Industrial automation startup RobCo Inc. announced on October 5, 2026, that it has closed a $40 million funding round, pushing its valuation past $1 billion. The secondary transaction doubled the Germany-based company's valuation since January 2026, with most of the equity purchased from current and former employees. The buyer consortium included prominent venture firms Sequoia and Lightspeed alongside several other startup investors.

Modular Hardware for Factory Floor Tasks

RobCo designs and supplies over a dozen robotic systems built for manufacturing and logistics environment automation. Its product portfolio ranges from basic single-joint arms designed to suspend quality inspection cameras over conveyor belts to specialized multi-joint units structured to maneuver around obstacles.

The company's largest industrial arm, named XL, can handle payloads reaching 88 pounds with a reach of over eight feet, optimized primarily for metalworking tasks. RobCo's flagship hardware platform is Alfie, a mobile robot featuring two arms capable of dual-task coordination, such as holding an automotive component stationary with one arm while applying paint with the other.

Adaptive Vision and No-Code Software Stack

To eliminate the frequent software recoding traditionally required when inventory dimensions or line configurations shift, RobCo equips its systems with an artificial intelligence engine called RobVision. Customers activate the software by supplying a single photo of an item, after which RobVision generates synthetic image variations to train a custom model that automatically adapts the robot's movement to line variations.

The company's software architecture also incorporates RobFlow, a visual development tool allowing operators to string together pre-programmed motion commands into complex workflows without writing code. A third component, RobCo Studio, provides tools for hardware optimization and maintenance scheduling.

Expanding Manufacturing and Enterprise Reach

The newly secured capital is targeted at expanding RobCo's commercial presence across the United States, where it already maintains customer deployments in 12 states. Ahead of the funding round, founding Chief Executive Officer Roman Hölzl relocated to San Francisco, while the company maintains a dedicated manufacturing facility in Austin, Texas.
