Ubisoft's upcoming turn-based tactical spin-off Rainbow Six Tactics features a roster of 15 characters, each built with distinct gadgets, playstyles, and progression systems to prevent functional overlap, according to game director Martial Potron.
Roster Design and Constraints
Speaking with TechRadar Gaming at Gamescom, Potron explained that the development team made it a priority to ensure every character serves a specific role within the tactical experience. The game will launch with 15 characters in total, and players will not be able to use the same characters repeatedly due to newly implemented gameplay mechanics.
While the roster is smaller than the core series lineup, the team included essential community favorites such as Ash, Sledge, Glaz, Montagne, Doc, and Nokk. However, the selection process required difficult omissions, leaving out popular figures like Tachanka and Lion.
Launch Plans and Future Outlook
Regarding post-launch additions, Potron stated that the team has no current plans to introduce more characters for the initial release, choosing instead to focus entirely on shipping the single-player experience.
Rainbow Six Tactics is scheduled to launch in 2027 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
