Toronto-based software startup Polygrade has emerged from stealth mode, securing $6.3 million USD ($9 million CAD) in total seed capital to automate home warranty administration using agentic AI tools.

Seed Financing and Expansion Plans

Polygrade raised its funding across two separate rounds structured as simple agreements for future equity. An initial $3.3 million USD seed round was completed in early 2025 with backing from American Family Ventures, Nine Four Ventures, Hustle Fund, Room, and Pillar. Construct Capital subsequently provided an additional $3 million USD cheque in July 2026.

Originally launched a year and a half ago under the name ProPay to help contractors receive payments faster, the business rebranded to Polygrade as it broadened its scope to cover the complete claims workflow. The company intends to allocate the capital toward expanding its seven-person team, targeting forward-deployed engineering hires to support client integrations as well as go-to-market staff.

Workflow Automation and Operational Guardrails

Managing home warranties often involves heavy administrative friction, complex coordination, and multiple service trips. Polygrade's platform deploys AI agents that collect information directly from homeowners, formulate diagnostic recommendations, source required replacement parts, process invoices, and issue payments to contractors.

To mitigate risks associated with automated claims denials and misclassifications common in broader insurance tech, Polygrade builds its agents to function strictly within each warranty provider's existing policy constraints. The startup stated that its platform provides auditable recommendations rather than opaque automated decisions, routing actions that exceed authorized parameters to human operators for final review.

Leadership and Early Customer Adoption

Polygrade was co-founded by Chief Executive Officer David Steckel, Chief Technology Officer Eui Chung, and Head of Product Kaustabh Vongole. Steckel previously founded home management platform Setter, which was acquired by Thumbtack in 2020, before collaborating with Chung and Vongole on digital transformation initiatives at Sears Home Services.

The startup reported that its integration model avoids complex system overhauls or long deployment schedules, which helped it land two of the five largest home warranty providers in the United States as clients within its first year.
