Opera has detailed a feature within Opera One for Android that allows users to purchase and set up eSIM mobile data plans directly inside the web browser. The feature targets international travelers looking to secure local internet connectivity without switching between third-party carrier applications. Access to the purchasing workflow is built into the browser's standard settings menu.
Requirements and Plan Options
To purchase and use the integrated eSIM, users must run the latest release of Opera One on a carrier-unlocked phone running Android 10 or newer. Opera noted that the capability is exclusive to the main Opera for Android application and is not available on Opera Mini or Opera GX Mobile.
Users can select their travel destination directly within the app and choose between three data plan tiers: 3GB, 5GB, or 10GB. All plans remain valid for up to 30 days or until the purchased data allowance is fully consumed. Once payment is processed, the browser initiates the native Android system prompts required to install the digital SIM profile onto the device.
Activation and Device-Wide Connectivity
Although the eSIM profile is purchased and installed through the browser, the resulting mobile connection provides device-wide internet access for all apps on the phone. Opera recommends installing the profile over a stable connection prior to departure.
Plan activation occurs automatically once the device connects to a supported mobile network in the destination country, which marks the start of the 30-day validity window. To complete setup upon arrival, users must manually select the eSIM for mobile data within their device's native system settings and turn off data roaming on their primary physical SIM card to avoid unexpected fees.
