Nettle, a developer of AI software for commercial insurance loss control, has raised $4.8 million in an oversubscribed seed financing round led by MTech. Follow-on investor Project A Ventures participated alongside Sure Valley Ventures, Portfolio Ventures, Ventures Together, and several angel investors. The deal brings Nettle’s total funding to $6.8 million after a previous $2 million pre-seed round in March 2025.
Addressing Capacity Bottlenecks in Commercial Risk
Former QuantumBlack team members Jack Miller and Katya Kinane founded Nettle in 2024 to modernize how commercial insurance carriers evaluate physical asset risks. Loss control departments responsible for auditing risk profiles often experience backlogs of up to six months. The industry also faces severe demographic pressures: Nettle notes that approximately 40 percent of active risk engineers are scheduled to retire by 2030, creating a persistent shortage of specialized talent.
Multi-Sensor Data Analysis and Automation
Nettle’s platform combines risk identification, evidence capture, analysis, and automated report creation within a unified digital workspace. The system ingests images, video clips, audio recordings, documents, and third-party data streams to evaluate exposures remotely. Through guided workflows, loss control engineers, independent insurance agents, and property policyholders can gather site data directly. Nettle states that this approach speeds up risk inspections by five times. Initially engineered for Commercial Property lines, the software now supports Liability, Construction, and Workers' Compensation portfolios.
Enterprise Deployment and Geographic Scaling
Built for enterprise insurance institutions, the workspace supports cloud-hosted and on-premises environments, alongside regional data residency options and enterprise security controls. The company currently serves insurance clients across Europe, the US, and Asia. Nettle intends to use the capital injection to grow its engineering and go-to-market teams while expanding its operational presence across European and US markets.
