Mozilla has commenced the rollout of Firefox 157 via its FTP server, bringing notable user interface overhauls and performance updates to the web browser following the recent deployment of version 156.

Nova UI Enabled by Default

The defining change in Firefox 157 is the activation of the Nova UI by default, shifting away from its previous status as an experimental flag. The refreshed design language introduces a rounder and softer aesthetic across the browser interface, affecting tabs, menus, address bars, search boxes, pop-over boxes, and sidebars. Alongside these adjustments, the theme incorporates pastel tints and colors while formally reintroducing compact mode to reduce interface clutter according to Mozilla.

Media and Hardware Enhancements

Beyond visual adjustments, build 157 delivers technical improvements aimed at multimedia performance. The browser enhances HDR video playback capabilities alongside audio and video synchronization across varying playback speeds. Furthermore, WebRTC video calls benefit from the introduction of hardware AV1 video decoding, replacing the software-based AV1 decoding utilized in prior versions.

Search Changes and Availability

The latest browser release also alters default search configurations by removing the built-in Amazon search engine entirely. While the official update notes remain pending, the details of version 157 have emerged through preceding beta and alpha builds as well as Mozilla's published interface roadmaps. The software is currently making its way to users through official server channels.
