Mob Entertainment is hosting an open beta on Steam for Escape from Playtime, a multiplayer prequel to the horror title Poppy Playtime. The playtest, scheduled to run through Sunday, October 4 at 6:00 PM PT, allows players to experience the game's asymmetric co-op survival design while providing feedback to help refine the launch build.
Cooperative Mechanics and Escalating Threats
In Escape from Playtime, up to eight players take control of small plush toys navigating dark factory rooms and corridors. The primary objective requires teammates to gather supplies and fill a cart to advance through sequential work shifts and ultimately escape the location. Success heavily relies on team coordination and resource management under constant pressure.
Opposing forces escalate across each shift, introducing distinct threat patterns. Stalking hazards include exploding robot toys that can be deactivated by hit damage from behind, as well as Cat Bee hazards that poison players until a teammate intervenes. The roster also features Miss Delight, a looming threat who halts completely when illuminated by a flashlight, creating psychological tension as players manage limited battery life.
Playtest Constraints and Development Goals
Mob Entertainment highlighted that the open beta represents a work-in-progress build containing experimental balancing, incomplete elements, and locked features. The developer recommends groups of at least four players to properly handle the multiplayer mechanics. Following a session, participants can submit feedback via an in-game survey to assist with ongoing development.
