Legato Launches AI-Powered Hearing Glasses Starting at $999

Hearing technology startup Legato announced on Thursday that its flagship smart eyewear, Legato Frames, is now officially available for purchase. Priced starting at $999, the device targets adults experiencing up to moderate levels of hearing loss by incorporating patented hearing-assistance hardware directly into the temples of the frames.

AI Noise Suppression and Privacy Design

Rather than relying solely on traditional directional microphones, Legato uses an onboard AI processing system to isolate human voices from background noise. The technology amplifies speech while dampening unwanted ambient sounds. To prevent sound leakage in public settings, the open-ear design uses a dual-speaker configuration engineered to cancel escaping audio, reducing external sound output by 99% a few inches away from the ear.

According to the company, all audio processing occurs locally on the device itself without relying on cameras or recording capabilities. Weighing 34 grams including lenses, the frames deliver between 10 and 12 hours of battery life per charge.

Everyday Functionality and Market Availability

Legato Frames are released in three initial frame styles and feature support for custom prescription lenses alongside Bluetooth audio streaming for music and calls. Buyers in the United States can purchase the frames via Legato's official website or through participating eye care professionals, with coverage available through vision insurance plans.

The public rollout follows a recent $12 million funding raise supported by Neotribe Ventures, Listen, and Village Global. Legato was founded in 2024 by former Bose and EssilorLuxottica veterans Mehul Trivedi and Steve Romine, who previously worked on consumer wearables such as Bose Frames and Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses.
