Keychron has expanded its lineup of non-standard chassis materials with the introduction of the K8 HE All-Wood Special Edition gaming keyboard. The new peripheral swaps out the standard plastic bottom enclosure for a solid walnut wood design, joining previous unconventional models like the concrete-edition keyboard shown at CES 2026.
Design and Internal Architecture
Beneath the walnut exterior, the K8 HE All-Wood retains core elements from earlier iterations, including an aluminum plate and a tray-mount design that now anchors into the wood case to alter the acoustic profile. Brown metal side panels contribute to a distinct aesthetic style, while the keyboard retains a tenkeyless layout with a high front height of 27.34 mm. Color-matched double-shot PBT keycaps use Keychron's OSA profile alongside north-facing per-key RGB backlighting that is customizable via the browser-based Launcher software, though the keycaps themselves lack shine-through capabilities.
Switches, Connectivity and Performance
The keyboard relies on Gateron Double-Rail Magnetic Nebula switches, featuring an actuation force between 40 and 60 gf and a total travel distance of 3.8 mm. These magnetic switches support analogue input, individual actuation point adjustment, Rapid Trigger, and SOCD configurations. However, the use of an S-Pole sensor orientation means compatibility is limited, preventing the use of standard magnetic switches from brands like Wooting or TTC. Connectivity options comprise Bluetooth 5.2, a 2.4 GHz wireless mode with a 1 kHz polling rate, and a wired USB Type-C connection. Power is supplied by a 4,000 mAh battery rated for approximately 110 hours with the backlight deactivated, and firmware is powered by open-source QMK. According to Keychron citing Rtings testing, the device achieves a 3.4 ms end-to-end keypress latency.
Availability and Pricing
The K8 HE All-Wood Special Edition is available exclusively through Keychron's direct sales channels, carrying a price tag of $199.99. Due to the high front profile, prolonged typing or gaming sessions without an external wrist rest may lead to physical discomfort.
