Apple has started rolling out iOS 27 to 33 iPhone models, including the iPhone SE (2020), iPhone 11 family and iPhone 12 family. The update began rolling out on September 14, according to TechRadar, with the same device requirements as iOS 26.

Broad iOS support

The supported range extends from the iPhone SE (2020) and iPhone 11 through newer devices including the iPhone 17 line, iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro models and iPhone Duo. The iPhone SE (2022), iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 families are also included.

AI needs newer hardware

Installing iOS 27 does not provide access to Apple's AI features on every compatible phone. Apple Intelligence, including Clean Up, Live Translation and Siri AI, is limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models listed by Apple. Compatible iPads need an M1 chip or later, while compatible MacBooks need M1 or later, with MacBook Neo also included.

Siri features vary

Even among supported devices, Siri AI capabilities are not uniform. Expressive voices and advanced dictation require Apple's AFM Core Advanced on-device model. On iPhone, that narrows support to the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo.

The advanced features also require specific newer iPad Pro, iPad Air, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models. On the listed iPads and MacBooks, at least 12GB of memory is required.

Regional restrictions

Siri AI is unavailable on iPhones and iPads in the European Union and China, according to Apple's explanation cited by TechRadar. EU users can access Siri AI on macOS 27 and visionOS 27. iPadOS 27 drops support for the 10.2-inch iPad (2020), 10.5-inch iPad Air (2019) and 7.9-inch iPad mini (2019), while supporting iPads from 2021 onward in the main model groups.
