Apple’s iOS 27 introduces Siri as a pre-installed standalone iPhone app for the first time, according to 9to5Mac. Released the previous week, the update adds a Home Screen entry point where users can start conversations, review earlier exchanges and submit files or photos for analysis.
Siri becomes a persistent chat app
The app presents previous Siri conversations in a chat-style stream instead of treating every interaction as a temporary voice request. Its iCloud synchronization also allows users to continue a conversation on another supported Apple device, making Siri interactions more persistent across the company’s platforms.
9to5Mac reports that versions of the app are also coming to iPadOS 27, macOS 27, visionOS 27 and watchOS 27. The source does not provide separate release dates for those versions.
Personal and on-screen context
The standalone interface connects to the Siri and Apple Intelligence capabilities included in iOS 27. According to the report, Siri can use information from messages, email and photos to address personal queries, while on-screen awareness lets it answer questions about content currently displayed on the device.
Users can also upload photos and files directly within the app for analysis. The source does not specify supported file formats, upload limits or how controls over this personal context are presented inside the new interface.
Limited to Apple Intelligence iPhones
The app is not available on every iPhone capable of installing iOS 27. Compatibility starts with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, then extends across the listed iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 families, including iPhone 16e, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air. The standard iPhone 15 and older models are excluded because they do not support Apple Intelligence.
Another default app
Siri joins Apple’s recent expansion of pre-installed iPhone software. Image Playground arrived with iOS 18.2 in December 2024, while iOS 26 added Preview and Games. Unlike those additions, the Siri app gives an existing system assistant a dedicated, chat-style conversation space, although the source does not say whether users can remove it from their devices.
