Honor introduced its latest flagship smartphone, the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max, in China on September 28, 2026. The launch follows a brief appearance of the device at the Venice Film Festival. Built around a cinema-focused hardware configuration inspired by ARRIFLEX camera arrays, the phone expands Honor's ongoing partnership with film equipment maker ARRI.

Cinema-Focused Optics and Processing

The camera system features a 200MP main camera with an f/1.57 aperture and three-degree gimbal-level optical image stabilization. This primary sensor is paired with a 200MP telephoto camera and a 50MP ultra-wide lens, arranged in an asymmetric camera bump layout. Honor incorporated an internal Imaging Chip H1 to process photographic detail and texture.

Through its integration with ARRI Image Science, the device supports ARRI-tuned color management and capture modes across its pipeline. Recording capabilities include 4K video capture at up to 60 frames per second in Cinema Mode, alongside a Cinematic Live Video feature that saves a three-second clip when the capture control is held.

Hardware Specifications and Battery

The Magic 9 Pro Max operates on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platform and includes a 6.8-inch OLED panel capable of reaching up to 10,000 nits peak brightness. Power is supplied by an 8,800mAh silicon-carbon battery that supports 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging speeds. Audio output is handled by twin stereo speakers.

The phone runs MagicOS 11 based on Android 17, which incorporates the company's YOYO assistant and YOYO Memory for media organization.

Pricing and Market Availability

In China, the device starts at RMB 6,499 (approximately $968). It is offered in Shadow Black, Glacier Silver, and Moss Green, with memory configurations ranging from 12GB RAM with 256GB storage up to 16GB RAM with 1TB storage. Honor indicated that international releases will follow, though regional availability dates and international pricing details have not yet been announced.
