Cybersecurity startup Hilt has emerged from stealth after securing a $4.2 million seed financing round led by venture firm Array Ventures. The investment brings the company's total funding to $4.7 million, expanding on a $500,000 pre-seed round backed by Pear VC in October 2025. Additional participants in the seed round include Verdict Capital, Base10 Partners, Brickyard, Liquid 2 Ventures, Sequel, the Sarah Smith Fund, and Alumni Ventures.
Low-Latency Kernel Architecture
Hilt was established by chief executive officer Will Cielen alongside co-founder and chief technology officer Alex Genest and founding engineer Zin Bitar. The platform works directly at the operating system kernel layer to track data movement across networks, cloud infrastructure, and endpoints. By streaming low-level operational data into graph neural networks, the software builds dynamic behavioral profiles for users and system assets. This architectural approach allows the platform to detect anomalies directly beneath software applications without introducing processing delays.
In-Environment Breach Prevention
Rather than relying on static file signatures or analyzing incidents after data loss occurs, Hilt targets active behavioral shifts. The platform flags suspicious event sequences—such as an unusual off-hours login paired with a recent credentials reset—even when conducted by authenticated users or authorized automated agents. Depending on policy configuration, the system can alert security operations teams or automatically quarantine active threats. The software runs completely inside the client's self-managed infrastructure, ensuring internal enterprise data does not leave company bounds. Hilt monetizes its platform through annual subscription fees charged per deployed data collector.
Growth Strategy and Market Expansion
The startup initially refined its technology to meet the stringent performance requirements of high-frequency trading environments and hedge funds, where low latency is critical to operational integrity. Hilt currently operates with a team of 11 employees and relocated its headquarters from San Francisco to Chattanooga, Tennessee, in partnership with investor Brickyard. Following initial deployments in high-speed financial systems, the company is extending its sales operations to neobanks, healthcare organizations, and professional services institutions. Hilt intends to use the seed capital to expand its core technical team and scale its go-to-market initiatives.
