Minneapolis-based narrative intelligence startup Gudea has raised $7 million in a seed funding round co-led by Mudita Venture Partners and Silicon Road Ventures, according to Crunchbase News. The financing brings the company's total funding to approximately $15 million since its 2023 inception.

Forecasting How Information Travels

Gudea builds technology designed to predict how online narratives spread, when they gain momentum, and how long they endure. Rather than relying on traditional social listening metrics such as keywords and hashtags, the platform maps behavioral patterns across more than 600 social media platforms. Its architecture combines graph neural networks to detect network behavior with large language models that generate automated summary reports for corporate leadership.

From Counter-Intelligence to Brand Risk

The core technology grew out of the George Washington Initiative, a nonprofit that adapted intelligence community tactics to monitor online disinformation. Co-founders Keith Presley and James Thomin established Gudea as a commercial business in 2023 after observing that viral backlash against corporate marketing campaigns followed the same structural pathways as online disinformation. The company primarily focuses on reputational risk management, identifying emerging narratives before they hit mainstream channels.

Commercial Growth and Competition

Gudea reports 357% year-over-year revenue growth and currently serves 39 enterprise customers spanning telecommunications, entertainment, retail, and artificial intelligence sectors. The 25-person company offers alerts, dashboard access, and automated briefings to deliver its findings. Competing against narrative tracking firms such as Blackbird, Cyabra, and Alethea, Gudea plans to use the new capital to expand its workforce, develop additional features, and broaden coverage across new languages and regions.
