Google is rolling out a series of updates to Google Home early access users aimed at improving voice controls, device onboarding, and security camera functionality. The patches refine features powered by Gemini and fix operational glitches across the smart home platform, according to Google's released notes.
Voice Command and Gemini Updates
The update introduces reliability improvements to the Find My Phone feature and enhances Gemini's language recognition capabilities to better support households where three languages are commonly spoken. Google states that Gemini has also been tuned to filter out background household chatter during voice requests, while latency has been reduced for faster conversation follow-ups.
App, Automation, and Security Camera Tweaks
Within the Google Home app, the update fixes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi pairing issues during initial setup on iOS and Android. The app will now cache network details on the user's smartphone to speed up adding subsequent devices. Material interface fixes include updated camera and doorbell tiles to better highlight active hardware, accurate offline status reporting for Matter switches, and ringtone audio previews for doorbells, including seasonal chimes. Additionally, video timeline scrubbing performance has been smoothed out for Onn devices, and a history viewing bug that triggered an unavailable video error has been resolved.
Persistent Performance Challenges
Despite the latest wave of fixes, some users continue to report performance glitches during the broader platform transition from Google Assistant to Gemini. User feedback on public forums highlights ongoing issues, including smart speakers stopping white noise playback unexpectedly overnight and Gemini struggling with timed device shutoff commands.
