Google has released Google AI Edge Foresight, a macOS application that handles speech transcription and note organization entirely on the user's local hardware. The software processes audio on the machine rather than routing user conversations to external data centers, targeting users seeking privacy for meeting notes and personal documents.
Real-Time Transcription and File Integration
Google AI Edge Foresight monitors audio during live meetings on platforms such as Google Meet and Zoom, as well as during in-person offline conversations. The software transcribes audio in the background while offering a split interface that allows users to write notes next to the running transcript. Users can type brief bullet points, which Foresight automatically converts into structured summaries using the context of the meeting's transcript. Beyond live speech, the app integrates with existing files, supporting PDFs, Microsoft Office formats, Google Docs, Markdown documents, plain text, and web bookmarks.
Contextual Querying and Offline Management
To assist with meeting follow-ups, Foresight includes a Live Assistance feature capable of referencing stored documents to answer questions or automatically responding to inquiries during a session. File organization tasks—such as applying custom labels, filtering content, and searching through recorded notes—occur locally on the device without requiring cloud connectivity. Google states that the software's background processing engine operates with low battery consumption.
Platform Constraints and Privacy Architecture
Foresight's central design feature is its local data architecture, which keeps audio recordings, transcripts, and personal information on the host computer rather than transferring them to cloud infrastructure. However, the software currently carries platform limitations: Foresight is available only for macOS, and Google has not confirmed whether a Windows version will be released or if the tool will integrate with Gmail.
