Garmin has started rolling out a software update for select Fenix 8 series, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970, Venu 6 and Vivoactive 6 smartwatches. The update adds fall detection to the Venu 6, hands-free voice controls to several compatible watches and new personalized running features.
Fall Detection Comes to Venu 6
The Venu 6 can now detect a hard fall and send the user’s live location to emergency contacts. The feature extends Garmin’s safety capabilities, although the source does not specify which contacts or emergency services are supported, nor how the detection behaves in every situation.
Voice Controls Without Touch
Several of the supported Garmin watches are gaining hands-free controls activated with the OK Garmin command. Garmin says users can access certain watch features without touching the device, but the update description does not identify the full list of supported commands or functions.
More Adaptive Run Training
The update also introduces personalized run workouts and a revised adaptive Garmin Run Coach plan. According to Garmin, the plan can adjust training based on a runner’s performance and progress, making the change most relevant to users who use the watches for structured training rather than basic activity tracking.
Rollout Is Still In Progress
Garmin says compatible-device updates have already begun rolling out through the Garmin Connect app. Availability may vary during the rollout, so owners who do not see the new software or features immediately may need to check again over the following days. Garmin has also issued updates for Edge cycling computers, adding automatic climb and descent detection and switching.
