Garmin Epic is a new Garmin Connect feature that combines recorded activities, maps, photos, notes and selected health and performance data in one interactive timeline. Although Garmin is introducing it alongside the Fenix 9 smartwatch, the feature is also available through the Garmin Connect app for older compatible watches, according to Lifehacker's report.
A timeline for more than trips
Epic is designed as a digital journal for a major trip, hike or race. Users can review activities on a shared map, browse an activity feed, add daily notes and attach photos across a selected period. The feature is free within Garmin Connect. Garmin's launch demonstration included sleep score, resting heart rate and HRV status in a reports view covering the same dates.
Useful for training blocks
The same timeline can also organize a training phase rather than a single event. Existing activities can be added after the fact, allowing runners to examine a past build, training camp, taper or return from injury in one view. Epic records cumulative distance and calories alongside sleep, recovery and HRV status, which can make longer-term patterns easier to inspect than separate activity entries.
Limits and scheduling
An Epic can span up to 92 days, roughly 13 weeks, so it fits a typical half-marathon training block but may require multiple entries for longer plans. Users can schedule as many as five future Epics, up to 366 days ahead. Daily notes provide a subjective record of factors such as fatigue or poor sleep, but the feature is not presented as a comprehensive training-analysis system.
Where to find it
Fenix 9 owners can create and start an Epic from the watch. Other users can create one in Garmin Connect under Activities, including by grouping older workouts. Garmin Epic should not be confused with the company's older epix watch line: the feature uses the spelling Epic, with a c.
