Global gaming-related startups have raised around $2 billion in seed- through growth-stage funding so far in 2026, according to Crunchbase. That total already exceeds the sector's full-year funding in 2025, although investment remains well below the peaks reached several years ago.
AI Companies Lead the Biggest Rounds
Meshy AI, a Sunnyvale developer of foundation models for AI-powered 3D generation, raised the largest round identified in the report: a $400 million Series B in July at a $1.5 billion valuation. Meshy is not solely a gaming company, but cites gaming as a core use case for its 3D AI agent.
Decart raised $300 million for its AI model-training platform. The Israel-based company is also associated with video simulation technology aimed at game development, placing both companies at the intersection of AI and interactive entertainment.
Pure Gaming Startups Also Raised
The funding increase was not limited to AI-focused businesses. Motion-based family game developer Nex raised $150 million, while Turkish mobile gaming company Grand Games raised $70 million in May. Crunchbase identified both among the year's larger gaming-related recipients.
Investors Are Raising New Funds
Gaming-focused investors are also securing fresh capital. Makers Fund raised $250 million for its fourth flagship fund, and Crunchbase data shows the firm participated in at least 10 known rounds during 2026, including financing for startups such as Novig.
Griffin Gaming Partners separately announced a $100 million fund focused on indie games. Its Special Opportunities Fund plans to finance games in exchange for a share of revenue, a structure the firm says could appeal to independent studios.
Recovery Still Has Limits
Crunchbase describes the increase as an early potential upturn rather than a return to prior highs. The reported gains are substantial compared with 2025, but overall gaming startup investment remains far below levels seen a few years ago.
