Framework has officially announced that pre-orders for its small form factor desktop equipped with the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 processor will open on Wednesday, 30 September, following earlier teasers of the hardware upgrade.
Backwards Compatibility and Chassis Design
According to the original equipment manufacturer's announcement on social media, the new processor configuration maintains the exact physical case and motherboard architecture found in current models to ensure full backwards compatibility for existing owners. The compact system continues to support a standard full-size Flex ATX power supply unit, an integrated PCIe x4 slot intended primarily for dedicated networking cards, and user-selectable cooling fan options including the Noctua NF-A12x25 HS-PWM alongside the Cooler Master Mobius 120 or 120P models.
Memory Upgrades and Pricing Details
The high-end configuration of the updated desktop expands potential memory capacity to top out at an impressive 192 GB of fast LPDDR5X-8533 memory, successfully surpassing the previous 128 GB limit seen in the earlier Ryzen AI Max+ 395 variant. While official pricing details and exact regional availability have not yet been disclosed by the company, pre-built versions of the system will remain available to customers with a choice of either Fedora Linux or Windows 11 pre-installed as their primary operating system.
