Indie developer Moonlight Kids and publisher Akupara Games have officially launched Echo Weaver on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass on October 8, 2026. The title introduces a deterministic time loop experience focused entirely on player discovery rather than character equipment upgrades.
Progression Driven by Discovery
Echo Weaver takes place in Provenance, a space colony recovering from a catastrophic event known as the Collapse. Players begin each run trapped in a time loop lasting only a few minutes, monitored by a countdown clock on screen. When the timer expires or the player dies, the cycle resets completely.
Unlike standard roguelikes, the environment and events in Echo Weaver are not procedurally generated or random. Instead, the game operates as a fixed clockwork puzzle. Progress relies entirely on acquiring information rather than unlocking new abilities or items. Every mechanic and path is technically accessible at the start of a run, but players must uncover environmental secrets and operational logic through repeated iterations to advance.
State Tracking and Streaming Challenges
Designing a knowledge-gated time loop created significant technical demands for the three-person development team. Because the game streams its world continuously without traditional loading screens, the engine cannot rely on conventional save checkpoints. Instead, the system continuously captures and tracks the precise state of every world object as environments load and unload around the player.
During production, the game's creative direction shifted from its original design. Early concepts featured a mature-rated atmosphere with graphic combat actions, but the developers adjusted the tone during development to align with the visual art style while preserving the core journey from vulnerability to world mastery.
Studio Background and Platform Details
Moonlight Kids previously released the adventure game The Wild at Heart in 2021. Echo Weaver represents the fully remote studio's second major commercial project. The game is available immediately for purchase on PC and Xbox Series X|S, and is included in the Xbox Game Pass library at launch.
