Dusklight 2.0 is a major update to the PC reimplementation of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, adding a complete mod system, an in-game mod browser and a built-in randomizer. The project aims to reproduce the original game while adding customization options and support for modern systems such as Linux. A follow-up v2.0.1 release has already addressed some bugs.

Mods Become a Core Feature

Players can install gameplay changes, asset replacements and texture packs distributed as .dusk bundles. Mods can be found through the integrated browser, updated in bulk, enabled or disabled during play, and configured through individual settings and logs. Drag-and-drop installation is also supported.

For creators, Dusklight 2.0 introduces asset-only packages, native C++ extensions and Luau scripts. Its standalone SDK and project template support custom game modes, actors, dialogue, interfaces, audio replacements, rendering and networking services. Versioned dependencies are intended to help mods remain compatible across Dusklight releases.

A Built-In Randomizer

The new randomizer can shuffle selected items and entrances, including shops, gifts, dungeon keys, caves and boss rooms. Players can choose starting equipment, skip certain sequences and alter the conditions for reaching Hyrule Castle. Seeds can be shared through permalinks, while spoiler logs and exported seed data provide assistance when a randomized route becomes difficult to resolve.

More Disc and Save Support

Version 2.0 adds Japanese GameCube disc support and expands Wii compatibility to North American, Japanese and PAL releases. The project says it now works with every retail GameCube and Wii disc except the Korean Wii edition. Users must provide their own copy of the game.

A new Save Manager imports, exports and backs up saves, including .gci and .raw files. Dusklight's .dusksave format can package mod data with the game save. The update also fixes memory-card corruption issues and incorrect timestamps or playtime caused by sleep and background operation.

Performance and Play Options

Additional changes target smoother high-frame-rate interfaces and effects, reduced loading hitches with HD texture packs, and Vulkan fixes for some Adreno devices and Nix builds. Audio now supports 48 kHz output and 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound. New options cover faster scene transitions, letterboxing, interface scaling and aiming controls, while Speedrun Mode now uses separate saves.
