Devart has released dbForge 2026.2, introducing an embedded PostgreSQL Debugger, visual object editors, and upgraded AI capabilities across its database tool ecosystem. The release adds direct step-by-step debugging to dbForge Studio for PostgreSQL alongside expanded context attachments and model selection choices for dbForge AI Assistant.
Integrated Debugging and Object Editors
The newly embedded PostgreSQL Debugger runs natively within dbForge Studio for PostgreSQL without requiring extra software extensions or manual system configuration. Developers can set code breakpoints, step through statement execution line by line, and monitor active variables, expressions, and query outputs. When runtime exceptions occur, the tool automatically highlights the precise line that triggered the error.
The 2026.2 update also adds visual management interfaces for PostgreSQL event triggers, functions, and procedures. These graphical editors permit database teams to create and update server-side code objects visually instead of writing manual SQL statements.
AI Assistant Context and Tiered Access
dbForge AI Assistant now accepts broader workspace context within chat prompts. Users can attach active SQL documents, application scripts, database project files, diagrams, and saved custom instructions so generated SQL aligns with defined team standards. The assistant can also evaluate multiple attached databases within a single conversation and perform comparisons between scripted databases.
Engineers can select specific underlying LLM models for the assistant, including Anthropic's Claude Haiku 4.5, Claude Sonnet 4.6, or Claude Sonnet 5, as well as OpenAI's GPT-5.4 and GPT-5.6. Devart has introduced a free Express edition of dbForge AI Assistant featuring a limited token allocation and a 14-day history window, alongside paid tiers with higher token limits and unlimited history storage.
Refactoring and Schema Management Updates
Cross-platform enhancements in dbForge 2026.2 add SQL refactoring capabilities to dbForge SQL Complete and studio tools for SQL Server, MySQL, and Oracle. The updated refactoring tools automatically apply object and column name qualifications while expanding wildcard operators within existing queries. Developers can also trigger test data generation routines directly from the Database Explorer pane.
For schema comparison workflows in SQL Server and Oracle environments, comparison documents and reports now feature a "Last modified" column. Furthermore, all dbForge utilities for MySQL now support MySQL 26.7 and MariaDB 13.x installations. The update is available immediately via in-app update checks or fresh downloads from Devart.
