Automated web scraping tools are increasingly targeting leading artificial intelligence services, marking a structural shift in corporate data collection. According to new research from web data platform Decodo, ChatGPT and Perplexity have entered the list of the top five most scraped websites for the first time.
Monitoring Brand Perception in Generative AI
The analysis revealed that OpenAI's ChatGPT accounted for 14 percent of observed scraping activity, placing it in third position. Perplexity captured 10 percent of traffic to finish in fifth place. Social platform TikTok recorded the highest share of scraping activity at nearly 18 percent, while Google and Amazon remained in the top ten.
Decodo CEO Vaidotas Juknys noted that corporate data collection priorities have fundamentally changed. While organizations previously scraped web pages to discover consumer search queries, companies now scrape conversational AI engines to analyze what answers buyers receive. Businesses deploy these automated monitors to track brand mention frequency, log citations, evaluate product rankings against competitors, and review corporate descriptions generated by AI models.
Retail Platforms Drop as Discovery Channels Shift
The rise of AI destinations coincides with a retreat from conventional e-commerce and booking platforms. Seven of the top ten most scraped sites were new additions, while traditional retail and booking portals such as Walmart, eBay, and Airbnb fell out of the top rankings compared to 2025. The shift indicates that businesses are adjusting their intelligence operations to match changing consumer shopping habits across social channels and AI interfaces.
Automated Agents to Drive Future Data Gathering
Decodo forecasts that additional conversational tools, including Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, could enter the top ten most scraped platforms in upcoming reports. Furthermore, the company anticipates that autonomous AI agents will soon replace human operators in initiating scraping routines and evaluating returned datasets.
