The development team behind Brawl Stars released a new episode of their Time to Explain podcast, addressing player questions regarding game progression, character release schedules, backend infrastructure, and narrative design following their previous January 2026 broadcast.

Progression Updates and Rarity System Concerns

During the episode, developers acknowledged community criticism surrounding the current Brawler rarity structure. While Mythic Brawlers have grown increasingly common, the team has intentionally avoided introducing new Rare or Super Rare Brawlers to preserve accessibility for new players. Although creating a potential new rarity tier has been discussed internally, altering the framework impacts the underlying game economy and progression system, leaving any structural rework as a lower priority for future review.

To support dedicated players who exhaust existing content, the studio confirmed plans to add more rewards to Trophy Road. Development is also underway on other capped progression tracks, though the developers noted that average players remain further from completing Trophy Road than the most active community members.

Infrastructure Maintenance and Release Cadence

Addressing persistent bug complaints, the team explained that a dedicated technology group is refactoring backend infrastructure to simplify long-term maintenance. With over 100 Brawlers and varied game modes creating complex interaction patterns, issues are prioritized based on severity; game-crashing glitches are addressed immediately, while smaller bugs are bundled into routine maintenance updates.

Despite concerns regarding roster size, the studio confirmed it will maintain its launch cadence of releasing at least one Brawler per month. Additionally, while the developers stated that Map Maker remains on their radar, the feature will not receive a major update during 2026 due to competing development priorities.

Narrative Adjustments and Gameplay Power-Ups

The developers also shared insights into narrative decisions, specifically regarding the character Sirius. A backstory revision less than two months before launch disrupted plans for a larger narrative payoff, though the team intends to revisit the character. Moving forward, the studio plans to deliver lore through origin stories, voice acting, and interactive events rather than relying primarily on standalone animated videos.

Reflecting on the two-month Nano Noodles and Rebellion chapter, the team highlighted positive community responses to the Topple the Tower format and select skins, while admitting the overarching story proved overly complex. Following player feedback regarding power-up fatigue, the developers confirmed that temporary power-ups will not return in that format for the remainder of 2026.
