Bitdefender has released a public beta of AI Guardian, a macOS security tool designed to monitor and intercept requested operations from autonomous software agents before those actions can execute on a system.
Intercepting Agent Operations
The standalone application functions in the background by evaluating requested tasks against pre-established user rules, classifying each operation as allowed, flagged, or blocked. The software records decisions to provide an auditable history of how individual operations were handled. Initial support covers Claude Code version 2.1.121 and OpenClaw version 2.6.6.
According to the company, the tool processes prompts locally while utilizing Bitdefender cloud infrastructure for select services such as website reputation checks. The system identifies hidden instructions designed to manipulate agents, examines Model Context Protocol components before invocation, and restricts access to sensitive resources like SSH keys and system credentials when exposed API tokens trigger security limits.
Scope and Security Risks
The tool is aimed at developers and technical practitioners who rely on automated agents for operational and coding tasks. Research cited by Bitdefender highlights that tested AI agents failed against over 36 percent of tool poisoning attempts, with one model manipulated in nearly 73 percent of trials. Furthermore, analysis indicated over 1.2 million exposed AI service secrets during 2025 alongside thousands of credentials found in public Model Context Protocol configurations.
Bitdefender Consumer Solutions Group senior vice president of operations Ciprian Istrate noted that automated agents function as direct extensions of users, inheriting associated vulnerabilities and necessitating dedicated security measures for the agents themselves.
Availability and Limitations
AI Guardian is currently free during its public beta phase, with availability limited to macOS users and an English-language interface. Bitdefender plans to expand support to other operating systems in future releases, joining a product lineup that already includes two other agent security offerings.
