Baldur's Gate 3: Act Two Expansion has been released after almost two years of development, according to creator SquallyDaBeanz. The fan-made project adds The Chionthar Wilds, a custom region designed to give players another substantial area to explore between the Shadow-Cursed Lands and Act 3.
A New Act 2 Detour
The expansion is intended for parties around level 8 or higher and becomes accessible after the Shadow-Cursed Lands storyline. Players who want to skip directly to the added material can instead use a quickstart option, which includes choices for equipment and hirelings.
Quests, Battles and Loot
The Chionthar Wilds contains more than 30 combat encounters and over 70 collectible items, alongside new creatures, quests, NPCs and cutscenes. Its creator describes the region as comparable in scope to the Act 1 Wilderness, although that comparison is a developer claim rather than an independent measurement.
Experience gains in the custom zones have been deliberately reduced. That balancing decision is meant to keep players from becoming so overleveled that the base game's third act loses much of its difficulty after they complete the expansion.
Designed for Existing Campaigns
The mod primarily serves players who want more variety before reaching the city of Baldur's Gate. Its brighter wilderness setting also provides a visual change after the darker environments that dominate the Shadow-Cursed Lands.
Important Limitations
The new characters do not have voice acting, making the additional dialogue a text-based experience. Several of the base game's reactive systems are also absent: players cannot speak with dead characters or animals in the new region, and decisions made there do not carry consequences into Act 3. Those omissions make the project more self-contained than an official campaign chapter.
