Apple Notes adds section links in iOS 27, giving users a way to jump directly to a heading or subheading within the same note. The feature is designed for navigating longer, structured documents without repeatedly scrolling through their contents.
How section links work
According to 9to5Mac, users can select text in a note, open the editing menu and choose Add Link. A new Link to Section option then presents the headings and subheadings found in that note. Selecting one turns the highlighted text into a link to that location.
The linked text can either retain the destination section's title or use custom wording. That makes it possible to create descriptive cross-references without changing the headings that organize the original note.
A practical use for long notes
The clearest application is a table of contents placed near the top of a lengthy note. Users could link each entry to the relevant section, reducing the effort needed to move among meeting topics, project details or other material organized under headings.
The feature can also be used more selectively. A note might contain only a few links to frequently revisited sections instead of a complete index, allowing users to create shortcuts where they are most useful.
Built for structured documents
Section links are most relevant to people who already divide notes with headings and subheadings. Short or unstructured notes gain less from the addition, and 9to5Mac expects that many iPhone owners may never need it. For power users, however, it adds a navigation tool more commonly associated with larger document systems.
