Amazon has blocked Meta’s Muse AI agent from accessing its online store, according to a report by GeekWire cited by Engadget. The move prevents people from using Muse to shop on Amazon and follows Amazon’s request that Meta voluntarily exclude the retailer from the service.
Why Amazon objected
Amazon says third-party applications that purchase goods for customers should identify themselves while operating on another company’s service and respect that service’s decision to participate. The company reportedly believes Muse does not make its presence clear while browsing Amazon’s website.
What Muse can do
Meta launched Muse earlier in September 2026 as a personal AI agent designed to act on a user’s goals. The service can fill out forms, send emails and shop using a generated single-use card from Link by Stripe, making it capable of taking actions beyond producing conversational answers.
Security claims remain disputed
Amazon also raised privacy and security concerns, including possible access to and retention of customer information. Meta says Muse cannot see users’ passwords or payment methods. According to Meta’s description, credentials supplied by users are placed in secure storage so Muse can use them without viewing them, including passwords entered directly in a browser.
The access dispute
Amazon says it asked Meta to remove Amazon from the Muse experience, while the report describes Amazon as frustrated that the agent does not identify itself during browsing. The source does not establish whether Meta has agreed to that request or whether Amazon access will be restored. Engadget said it contacted both companies for comment.
