Startups in sales, marketing and customer relationship management have raised $7.5 billion across 830 funding rounds so far in 2026, according to Crunchbase data. AI-focused companies are receiving most of that investment, even as the sector draws fewer deals than during the pandemic-era funding peak.
More capital, fewer bets
The sector is on pace to approach the $9.3 billion raised in both 2023 and 2024, but could remain below 2025's $11.1 billion total. Deal volume is expected to decline for a fourth consecutive year. Funding also remains well below the more than $27 billion raised in 2022 and nearly $41 billion in 2021, indicating that investors are concentrating larger checks among fewer companies.
Large rounds favor AI products
Several of the biggest financings went to companies using AI in customer-facing or marketing workflows. AppsFlyer raised more than $1 billion in a June Series E and was valued at $2.7 billion. Parloa, which develops AI agents for customer conversations, raised a $350 million Series D in January, tripling its valuation to $3 billion.
Clay announced a $115 million Series D on Sept. 9 at a $7.1 billion valuation, more than double its $3.1 billion valuation from its August 2025 Series C. The sales automation company said the raise followed fourfold revenue growth in 2025; it told Crunchbase News that it is targeting $200 million in annualized recurring revenue this quarter and $240 million by the end of its fiscal year.
Acquisitions remain the main exit
Public-market exits are limited. Liftoff Mobile was the sector's notable IPO, raising $437 million by selling 19 million shares at $23 each and reaching a $3.83 billion valuation based on its disclosed outstanding shares. Most other exits came through acquisitions, including Adyen's roughly $880 million purchase of loyalty platform Talon.One. Zoom, Apollo.io, Pipedrive and Adobe also acquired sales or marketing software companies during 2026, while HubSpot agreed to acquire Warmly; most transaction prices were undisclosed.
