Microsoft has launched a redesigned version of Copilot for Microsoft 365, adding a Code workspace for creating simple applications from prompts, a managed cloud deployment service and new document-editing and agent features, according to SiliconANGLE. The update targets both nontechnical employees and developers who need to extend the resulting apps.

Prompt-built applications

The Code workspace is intended for workers who want to describe an app rather than build it from scratch. Microsoft’s example is a sales dashboard, and generated applications can run as desktop widgets or cloud services. Cloud-hosted apps can be shared with colleagues, while Copilot Managed Runtime is designed to handle deployment without manual environment configuration or ongoing maintenance.

A developer handoff

Managed Runtime includes a software development kit and command line tool. Engineers can use those tools to refine applications created by colleagues, including adding integrations with external services. Microsoft also says teams can preview and improve a new version while keeping the current version available, with the host enforcing identity and policy and providing monitoring, usage and inventory information.

Chat, agents and data

The revamped Copilot homepage also separates Chat and Autopilot from Code. Chat can create or edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files through an Office integration, with the document shown inside the Copilot interface for manual changes. Autopilot creates agents without code for recurring tasks, business events and multistep work. Microsoft says Microsoft IQ now uses information from Dynamics 365 and Power Platform to tailor results to company data.

Further changes planned

Microsoft says it is working on a Today section that will surface important outstanding tasks and complete some automatically. It is also developing a way to reduce manual switching between Chat and Code. The source identifies these as planned enhancements, so their availability is not established by this report.
