Reliance Industries Limited is advancing toward what is projected to be India's largest initial public offering, as its digital and telecom arm, Jio Platforms, prepares to hit the public markets. According to reporting from Inc42 and LiveMint, the upcoming public offering aims to raise approximately ₹30,213 crore, valuing the enterprise at up to ₹10.3 lakh crore ($108 billion). To bolster market momentum, leadership has initiated an extensive internal campaign to encourage participation across its vast employee base.
Financial Footprint and IPO Mechanics
The Jio Platforms public offering is scheduled to open for subscription on October 21 and close on October 23, with the anchor book opening on October 19. The price band has been established between ₹1,065 and ₹1,119 per share, involving a fresh issue of up to 27 crore equity shares. Unlike secondary offers for sale, the proceeds will flow directly into the company rather than cashing out existing shareholders, with a significant portion earmarked to prepay borrowings taken by its material subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm. Financially, Jio entered the public arena on solid ground, reporting operating revenue of nearly ₹1.47 lakh crore for fiscal year 2026, up from ₹1.28 lakh crore in fiscal year 2025. Net profit climbed correspondingly to ₹30,049 crore, while EBITDA margins expanded to 51.91 percent.
Mobilizing the Massive Employee Workforce
In a notable display of internal backing, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani has reportedly urged the conglomerate's massive workforce of approximately 420,000 employees to participate in the IPO. Sources cited by LiveMint note that Reliance released October salaries roughly 15 days earlier than usual to provide staff with immediate liquidity for investing. While Inc42 framed the employee push broadly as a show of strength or a precautionary safety net, LiveMint detailed specific logistical coordination, including teams verifying whether employees and their families hold the requisite electronic trading accounts. Eligible employees are offered a 5 percent discount on a dedicated share quota worth up to ₹500 crore. Beyond internal participation, the offering has drawn strong global interest, attracting more than $20 billion in early bids from international institutional investors such as Fidelity Management & Research, Allianz SE, and Capital Group.
Evaluating Valuation Against Growth Aspirations
The upcoming market debut carries immense significance because it establishes an independent public valuation for an infrastructure giant that has historically operated entirely within the Reliance ecosystem. While Jio commands an impressive operational scale—including 533.3 million telecom customers as of June 2026 and handling roughly 60 percent of India's wireless data traffic—analysts and market watchers face the complex task of determining whether its lofty valuation is fully supported by future earnings potential. Much of the debate centers on the company's dual identity as both a dominant connectivity provider and an aspiring digital ecosystem player. Beyond traditional mobile and fixed broadband services—the latter expanding rapidly via fixed wireless access—Jio is aggressively pushing into digital entertainment, cloud storage, enterprise solutions, and proprietary artificial intelligence initiatives like JioBrain and JioAICloud. However, industry observers emphasize that registered user numbers, such as the 66 million registered accounts on JioAICloud, do not automatically convert into paying subscribers or proportional revenue gains. Furthermore, because a substantial portion of the IPO proceeds is directed toward debt reduction rather than direct capital expenditure for new growth projects, investors must weigh whether ongoing network investments, depreciation costs, and consumer adoption rates across non-telecom services can sustain the high valuation multiples benchmarked against competitors like Bharti Airtel.
