Apple has officially opened App Store Connect to accept submissions of software optimized for its upcoming iPhone Duo hardware. Developers can now build or recompile their apps and games using Xcode 27.1 Release Candidate 1, which Apple released alongside the submission announcement on its Developer News Hub.

Applications built or recompiled with Xcode 27.1 will automatically display an optimization badge on their App Store product page, signaling to potential users that the software supports the iPhone Duo.
To help software creators adjust existing user interfaces for the dual-segment layout, Apple pointed developers to Device Hub. This tool enables developers to preview and test how an application behaves across all supported hardware poses and physical orientations. The release candidate follows several weeks of Xcode 27.1 beta testing aimed at establishing multi-pose app capabilities.
Asset Requirements and Developer Workshops
Apple has outlined new requirements for software listings ahead of the hardware launch. Starting in April 2027, every app and game submitted to App Store Connect will be required to include dedicated iPhone Duo screenshots.
To assist development teams with updating their listings, Apple has published technical guidance detailing design templates, asset management procedures, and preview specifications. Apple is also conducting in-person iPhone Duo developer workshops over the coming days to offer direct support during the software adaptation process.
Hardware Launch and Pre-Order Timeline
The software submission window opens shortly before the new hardware reaches retail channels. Customers can begin setting up their pre-orders on October 12, 2026.
Official pre-orders for the iPhone Duo open on Friday, October 16, 2026. Deliveries to customers and physical retail store availability will officially begin on October 23, 2026.
