Fuse Games has released STAR WARS: Galactic Racer on Xbox Series X|S, published by Secret Mode. The title introduces a runs-based racing loop that combines modular vehicle customization with high-stakes failure mechanics, requiring players to balance aggressive driving against severe crash penalties.
Risk Management in the Runs-Based Loop
Each run begins with players selecting a vehicle baseline, such as a skim speeder, speeder bike, landspeeder, or podracer, paired with a distinct Racer Style like afterburner or cooled configurations. According to Creative Director Kieran Crimmins, drivers adjust their builds after individual races by acquiring randomized parts, abilities, and shop upgrades between planets. However, events impose strict crash limits. Exceeding allowed crashes causes players to wreck out, forfeiting their League Token and resetting the current tour progression.
Dual Progression and Multiplayer Systems
The game uses two distinct progression layers. Temporary stats boost attributes like cornering, resilience, and afterburner power for the duration of a run, alongside up to five equipped parts that can develop structural faults over time. Outside individual tours, permanent progression allows players to expand baseline vehicle stat pools, unlock rule-modifying favors, and upgrade Racer Styles. Co-founder Steve Uphill noted that this design extends into multiplayer through shortened tours culminating in a final knockout race, where players who wreck out early can still gain XP by predicting the eventual winner.
Procedural Camera and Collision Physics
To maintain visual clarity without interrupting racing flow, Fuse Games created a procedural collision camera system rather than relying on pre-rendered animations. Uphill explained that crash sequences are capped at eight seconds across all four vehicle classes. The camera system dynamically evaluates vehicle speed, orientation, and surrounding terrain in real time to frame collisions that reflect each vehicle's unique mass, physical structure, and mechanical breakdown.
