ZeniMax Media has issued a cease-and-desist order to halt an AI-generated browser game project titled Fallout: New York, according to a report by PC Gamer. The project's creator, Chris First, stated that he directed Claude and a studio of AI agents to build the game to closely mimic the Fallout franchise.
Legal Action Over Domain and Branding
According to the source, the legal intervention was triggered primarily by the project's domain name, fallout.nyc, which ZeniMax Media stated infringes directly on the studio's intellectual property rights. The creator noted on social media that he received the takedown notice after registering the domain and publishing the title.
Contrast With Traditional Modding
The release drew sharp criticism across the community for its reliance on automated generation tools rather than traditional human effort. Observers contrasted the project with massive, community-led undertakings such as Fallout: London and Skyblivion, which involve years of dedicated work by volunteer teams.
Project Status and Limitations
The browser-based title offered low-poly graphics and gameplay modeled explicitly after existing entries in the series. Following the receipt of the cease-and-desist message from ZeniMax Media, the project's future remains closed as the creator has shown little inclination to alter the branding and relaunch.
