Samsung has formally notified users via an in-app notice that it plans to discontinue its standalone Samsung Sound application on March 31, 2027. Following the scheduled sunset date, the electronics maker will instruct all affected customers to migrate back to its primary SmartThings platform for managing their connected home audio equipment.

A Brief Lifecycle for Standalone Audio Control

The planned retirement of the Samsung Sound app comes less than one full year after its original release. Samsung initially introduced the software to offer a dedicated control interface specifically tailored for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connected soundbars as well as wireless speakers released in 2024 and beyond.

At its launch, the company positioned the Samsung Sound tool as a streamlined alternative to SmartThings for newer audio hardware. However, despite its focused purpose, the dedicated utility struggled to deliver a complete experience. Users quickly discovered that the specialized app lacked several key capabilities and integration features available within the broader Samsung software ecosystem. As a result, maintaining a separate application added unnecessary fragmentation to the user experience without offering substantial benefits over the established primary hub app.

Reintegrating Features into SmartThings

In light of these functional gaps and user feedback, Samsung elected to abandon the separate utility approach entirely. Rather than supporting two distinct software environments for audio control, the manufacturer is consolidating its efforts by integrating all essential soundbar and speaker management tools directly back into the core SmartThings ecosystem.

Users holding supported 2024 and newer audio products will eventually need to perform all setup, configuration, and daily operations through the main SmartThings interface. Samsung's multi-year transition period leading up to the March 2027 sunset gives existing app users ample time to adjust their setups and switch their device management workflows to the central platform. This consolidation strategy aims to streamline software support while providing audio owners with access to the complete suite of features available across Samsung's connected device family.
